Swedish prices after the Russian-Ukrainian war: a “good time” we can never go back to

Hello everyone, I’m here to write an article again! This time we’re going to talk about the prices in Sweden.

Since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the prices in Sweden have really skyrocketed! For example, a bottle of juice in the supermarket used to cost 25 kronor, but now it has risen to 53 kronor, and the price has doubled, which is simply outrageous. So friends who want to study in Sweden now really didn’t catch up with the good times, and even this “good time” may never come back. But there is no way, since you’re here, right? Then accept the reality and see what the current prices in Sweden are like.

The pictures in this issue were taken at the COOP supermarket in Lund. This supermarket is a warehouse type, and the prices are relatively cheaper. If you go to a supermarket in the city center, the prices may be more expensive. So this price reference is the “lower limit” of Swedish prices.

Okay, without further ado, let’s go to the pictures and see how expensive it is!

This is the current price in Sweden, updated in February 2025.

The prices in the picture are all calculated per kilogram, in Swedish kronor. The current exchange rate between Swedish kronor and RMB is about 1:0.7, so if you want to convert it into RMB, the price is about ×0.7.

As you can see from the picture, the prices in Sweden are indeed quite expensive, especially vegetables.

It is winter now, and vegetables are expensive in Sweden, so if you compare it with China, the prices are simply very different.

If you want to make a tomato scrambled egg here, the cost is actually about the same as making a portion of ribs, because vegetables are too expensive!

As for meat, the price is relatively not as outrageous as vegetables, but it is still much more expensive than in China:

Pork is much more expensive than in China

Beef is relatively cost-effective, and the difference with pork is not particularly large

In general, the prices in Sweden are indeed not very friendly, especially for international students, the cost of living has risen significantly compared to a few years ago.

That’s it, thank you for watching!
